Black Myth: Zhong Kui Celebrates Chinese New Year 2026 with 6-Minute In-Engine Short

Ahead of the Year of the Horse, Game Science surprised players with a six-minute-and-forty-five-second in-engine short for Black Myth: Zhong Kui. Rather than combat or exploration, the entire video stays inside a kitchen, following a group of people — and ghosts — working together to prepare a feast.

"Everyone at Game Science wishes you, in the Year of the Horse, food worth savoring and sleep worth having!"

"This video was recorded especially for the Spring Festival and has nothing to do with the game's actual story. Please don't read too much into it."

While the short is explicitly non-canon, it offered the first extended look at the game's in-engine rendering since the CG reveal teaser — character models, lighting, and material detail all pointed to a visual step beyond Black Myth: Wukong. It continues the studio's tradition of playful seasonal videos: Game Science marked earlier New Years with similar "stop-motion cooking" style shorts during Wukong's development.

In May 2026, founder Feng Ji added that he had already written two music demos for the new title, while the team continued to stress that the project remains in early development with no announced release date.
