"Brother, help, save me!"
"You're not even trying!"
"Where's the mountain? Must be another illusion!"
"Catch, catch those who come for us!"
Zhong Kui is a famous exorcist figure in Chinese folklore. He was a brilliant scholar who achieved top honors in the imperial examinations but was denied his title due to his appearance. In despair, he committed suicide and was later appointed by the King of Hell as the Ghost King, responsible for capturing evil spirits. His image is often used as a protective talisman to ward off evil, with stories dating back to Shen Kuo's "Dream Pool Essays" from the Northern Song Dynasty.
Following the release of Black Myth: Wukong, developers including Yang Qi experienced complex emotions. Originally planning to create DLC, they decided to first develop the new title Black Myth: Zhong Kui, hoping to explore new creative approaches beyond established patterns.
Black Myth: Zhong Kui is the second title in the Black Myth series, a single-player action RPG primarily inspired by the Chinese folk figure Zhong Kui. The game is currently in early development stages with no actual gameplay footage available yet.
"No ghosts walked the earth till born of human heart;
Onstage and off, immortals fall to fiends—their perfected art.
Indoors and out, the judge is bound by the same household ties;
The sun is veiled, the moon unmoved—who decrees who lives and who dies?
I turn from worldly tangles and their codes, from glories smeared with sleight.
I raise my sword—I raise it to fight; With it, I shall judge wrong and right!"
Viewers have expressed excitement for the new title, with some hoping to retain animated scenes between chapters, others mentioning their anticipation for Black Myth: Wukong DLC, and some sharing their understanding and emotional connection to the Zhong Kui legend.
